Numeric Messages
Question: I have a numeric beeper only. How do I set this up in HipLinkXS? Response: You first need to create a messenger for the DTMF protocol and start that service in the “Services” menu. The only important parameters for the messenger are the serial port (see “Dial Up Sending”) and the queue checking time. You next have to create a carrier. This is actually a “dummy carrier”, simply indicate the protocol (DTMF), but don’t provide a dial up number. Important here is the “First Delay” parameter, set this to ca. 10 seconds. Then you can go ahead and define a receiver device. In the receiver settings, provide the dial up number as its PIN and select the DTMF carrier in the carrier drop down list. You are now ready to send numeric messages. Be sure to only use numeric characters when sending a message, since the send will otherwise be aborted. For numeric pagers that require you dial a network center number and enter a PIN (the pager PIN) before sending messages, don’t use the dummy carrier, but a carrier that contains the network center number as dial up number. In the receiver settings, specify the PIN and use this carrier. |
