Com Port is not accessible

Question: I can’t set up the TAP messenger on Windows 2000. I can’t access the COM-port where my modem is at?

Response: The problem is not the set up of the TAP messenger, the init string or the port. The problem is most likely that the COM-port is locked by another process. Even if this process is not actively using the modem or port at that time, it still locks the port. You have to close those applications (such as remote access control); after that the TAP messenger will work.
